Frequently Asked Questions

by families in the neighbourhood!

Offerings

  • We used to, but not anymore. Was it too much? No, it just wasn’t a part of our long term vision for the space. We like to make sure we’re open to the neighbourhood on weekends for families to visit and enjoy time together.

And the good news is that we have lots of great places in the neighbourhood that host parties!

  • We believe that kids are incredibly clever and creative without adult instruction. Our open-ended space has been designed to spark your child’s imagination and thinking. The environment is acting as the Third Teacher, and the owner and operator, Lainie, is incredibly observant and creative. She watches for ways to extend your child’s learning and experience, and brings in new materials for them to explore. So that’s a long way of saying, no, we don’t offer formal classes :)

  • We love Community Circle! It’s when families visit during drop-in on Wednesdays or Fridays. At 10 a.m., we gather for Community Circle. It might be for a story, music, or a visitor from the neighbourhood! A sweet way for kiddos (and us grown-ups) to gather.

  • Ahhh, we love them! We welcome families to visit on Sundays by reservation (made in advance through our website). With a small number of spots available, families enjoy a slow, Sunday feeling.

  • We’re glad you asked! We share a reservation link at the top of our website every Friday morning at 8 a.m. Families can fill out the form (through that link) to make their reservation and then we’ll be in touch to confirm you have a spot + how to pick up your passes!

The cost of a visit on “Slow Sunday” is a drop-in pass for your family + a Slow Sunday pass ($15 / family).

The reservation link stays up until 5 p.m. the next day (Saturday). After that time, if any spots remain, we’ll share with families through our Instagram stories so they can walk-up the next day for those spots.

  • We do! We offer incredible programs for kiddos ages 3-4, kindergarten aged kiddos (4-6 yrs) and big kids (up to 12 yrs). Check out our programs: Creative, Curious + Kind!

  • You’re welcome to drop-in on Wednesdays, Fridays, or Saturdays! You can find our hours here.

And if you’d like to visit for a “Slow Sunday,” you can make a reservation! A small group of families visit on Sundays. You can find the reservation link (on our website) Friday to Saturday.

The Space

  • No, we’re not a co-working space. We do understand trying to get things done while your kid(s) enjoy themselves, and we think you’ll also be interrupted a million times with - “Wow! Look at this! Look at me!” At LYKKE Kids, we’re about families spending time together and having fun.

  • LYKKE Kids is meant as a place where you can unplug and escape the noise + busyness of life.

Feel like a kid again and play with a hot glue gun or dabble with watercolours. Flip through a magazine. And if you find that you need to make a quick call, we can show you a space where you can do that.

  • Of course! Feel free to bring your own nut-free snacks for your visit. We have an eating area at the back, along with high chairs you’re welcome to use. And in case you’re wondering, we don’t have a microwave.

  • Yes, please! For hygiene reasons and with little ones crawling around, we ask that you wear socks in the space.

  • You’re more than welcome to take photos of your own kiddo (without other visiting children in the picture). We ask that you not take photos and videos of the space. We have photos online and we like for families to feel surprised when they visit! :)

  • We find that once the kiddos leave, they feel done for the day. And for that reason, we don’t do in and out.

  • Lots! Our space was designed by an educator, with families of all ages in mind (ages 0 - 12). We've had little ones as young as 3 weeks old, up to 11 year olds making away in the art studio. There's something for everyone. Grown-ups too!

And we love surprises! It's why we don't lay everything out on our website. We think it’s important to be open to new experiences and to feel more comfortable with not knowing everything in advance. It feels like a life skill. Plus, feeling surprised is exciting.

  • We’re glad you asked! It’s a bit different than your usual play center with ball pits and slides (which is great for gross motor play and important for their healthy development).

LYKKE Kids is a space that focuses more on cognitive play (e.g., problem solving, exploration, decision making, tinkering, creativity, using their imaginations…) and cares about creating a space in the neighbourhood where families can gather.

The space has been designed (and is run) by a former teacher with a Masters of Education degree. Lainie has intentionally chosen high quality, open-ended materials that encourage thinking and creative play. And because the kids are so happy and engaged, it means grown-ups get to have conversations and catch up with friends.

  • We actually have families visiting us all year round! We have families that visit each week, families that meet up every Saturday to spend time together, and families visiting from all over the world (UK, Australia, Czech Republic, New York City…)

We’re so glad - it’s important for kids to feel free to create, design, pretend, and be amongst others - all year round. To be kids.

Passes

  • Kids AND grown-ups use a pass to visit LYKKE Kids. If you have a newborn (0 - 3 months old), they are free!

Our space is unique in that it's designed for all members of your family. There's something for everyone to enjoy (the grown-ups too!) Your purchase of a pass helps us create a beautiful space for families of all ages to enjoy. Thank you!

  • They do, but you have quite a bit of wiggle room to use them. You’re welcome to use your pass within 60 days of purchase (just not on special event days or Slow Sundays).

  • Nope! We look forward to seeing you!

  • We’d love for you to come to the event! And a one-time pass intended for a visit on a regular day can’t be used to attend a special event. Check details for the event to see what’s required so you can join in!

  • We love gift cards! They’re the best gifts, and they can be used to visit us on a regular drop-in day (a Wednesday, Friday or Saturday). If you’d like to visit the space for a special event or “Slow Sunday,” you’ll need to pick up the passes needed for that particular day.

  • We love when kiddos get to enjoy time with their favourite people! And for each grown-up who visits, they would buy a pass for themselves.

  • You’ll notice that the price per person is less with the larger passes (a pass for a family of 4 or a family of 5-6 people). That’s very intentional. It’s our way of trying to support larger families with multiple children and to encourage grandparents to join families as well. It’s who those passes are for, and we’d really like to be able to keep offering these passes for them.

So if visiting with a group of friends (which we think is awesome!), we ask that you each pick up your own passes or if someone is treating the group, please add the appropriate passes to your cart (e.g., 3 friends visiting each with a kiddo, add three 2 person passes to your cart).

  • All good, we forget passwords ALL the time! Here’s where you can go in and reset your password: reset my password

  • Ah, they’re great! Especially for families who find themselves visiting on a regular basis because they’ll find savings.

Monthly passes auto-renew every 30 days from the date of purchase. Families can choose the number of visits they’d like per month, and they can cancel their pass after having it for 6 months (from the date of purchase).

If visits aren’t used, they don’t get forwarded to the next month. Families get a whole new set!

luckiest things
that can happen

I think, to have
a happy childhood.”

— Agatha Christie
